Dod would be the Department of Defense.
I don't know who or why, but it's interesting nonetheless.
So it goes.
The DOD controlled the original domain resolution for DARPA and later when the net expanded, all DNS resolution was through the DOD.
ReplyDeleteNow, individual ISP's handle name resolution on on a local/regional basis, but their servers are updated by the "master" (if you will) DNS resolution at the DOD. (which always amazed me since so many people attempting to hack don't realize that Uncle Obama and Company have a direct pipe to their IP, no matter how many jumps are used to obfuscate it).
